Dan Wilson will present: Refactoring In Coldfusion - From Procedural to OO

If you would like to know how to migrate an existing procedurally programmed application into an object oriented one, grab a chair and sit for a while. We'll discuss some sensible guidelines designed to help you make incremental changes towards OO nirvana.

We'll also look at lots of code samples, we all like code samples, right?
Bob Silverberg presented An Introduction to Transfer ORM

When developing an Object Oriented web application, there is usually a
need to enable the objects in your system to communicate with a
relational database.  This is often accomplished by creating numerous
cfcs that generate SQL statements (e.g., SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and
DELETE).  This can be a time consuming task, especially, as is common
in development, if your database structure changes.

Object Relational Mappers (ORM) were developed to automate this task,
by generating the necessary SQL for you.  Transfer ORM does this, and
has a number of other valuable features as well, such as a simple but
robust caching mechanism.

If you are developing an object oriented system, you owe it to
yourself to become familiar with the use of an ORM.  Even if you are
writing procedural code, but use cfcs, Transfer ORM can eliminate the
need for you to write much of your SQL code.

This presentation will give you an overview of what an Object
Relational Mapper is, why you might want one, and take you step by
step through installing and using Transfer ORM.

Charlie Arehart will present: CF8 Server Monitor Hidden Gems

Ok, so maybe you've started working with the CF8 Server Monitor or perhaps seen some demos of, but are sure you really know all that it can do for you? In this talk, veteran CFML developer Charlie Arehart will explore and expose some surprising observations about the CF8 Server Monitor. There are lots of nooks and crannies with info that may surprise you, including features you may have missed, or that are more useful than you thought. We'll also explore such questions as, do you need to worry about using it in production? The answer is, not always. One of many surprises uncovered in this talk. This talk does presume that attendees are already familiar with the CF8 monitor, such as discussed in his "CF8 Server Monitor Introduction", or his 4 part series at the Adobe DevCenter. If you're new to the CF8 monitor, you'll still learn a lot, but without the introductory background.

At the end of the meeting there will a prize draw for Adobe shirts and schwag.

Hidden Gems in CF8 - By Charlie Arehart

Prepare to be surprised! In this talk, veteran CFML developer Charlie Arehart will introduce over 75 hidden gems in CF8 (Scorpio). Sure, we've all heard about the big features, but in every release there are lots of little things, and in CF8 especially, Adobe has pulled out the stops! Come see if some long-standing problem has been solved, or learn of some new technique that's become available. You may be surprised at all the little things you may have missed!

A veteran ColdFusion developer since 1997, Charlie Arehart is a longtime contributor to the community and a recognized Adobe Community Expert. He's a certified Advanced CF Developer and Instructor for CF 4/5/6/7 who served as tech editor of the ColdFusion Developers Journal until 2003.
